Why You Need to See the Gorgeous Naples Preserve

The Naples Preserve is a protected “green space” showcasing natural flora and fauna nestled in the heart of the city. Established in February 2000 with the passing of a nine million dollar bond referendum, this nine and a half acre scrub oak ecological community was scheduled for development until it was saved by the dedicated citizens of Naples. Inspired to support this urban forest, volunteers spent hundreds of hours clearing the preserve of invasive foreign plants and waste. Today, the area is a beautiful example of the native ecology of the Paradise Coast.
A trip to the Naples Preserve is a great activity for nature enthusiasts as well as those seeking a beautiful way to spend a few hours in the city. If you’re looking for more to do, make sure to visit our Attractions page! It includes information about everything you’ll want to do while you’re in town. We’ve already done all the research about the best shopping, restaurants, and arts and cultural events available. You can just relax and enjoy! Take a look before you start planning your next trip to Florida’s beautiful Paradise Coast!

Walk the Naples Preserve Trail

When you come to the Naples Preserve, take some time to take in the beauty of the surrounding as you walk the Naples Preserve Trail. This 0.4-mile boardwalk is a leisurely stroll for most, perfect for a self-guided tour. Explore the diverse plants and wildlife of the preserve, which dates back to the Pleistocene era – about 10,000 years ago. The free trail is designed to provide interaction with the ecosystem and is open during daylight hours every day.

Learn Something New at a Nature Talk

Interested in gaining some new information about the ecosystem of Southwest Florida while you’re here? The Naples Preserve hosts free Nature Talks every Tuesday at 10 am. Listen to a professional presentation on a given topic, and feel free to ask questions.
Walk the trail before or after the lecture, or explore the Hedges Family Eco-Center. The volunteer staff there are friendly and helpful with answering additional questions. They also have brochures and local maps for your convenience.

Take an Eco-Tour of the Naples Preserve

When you’re ready to explore more of Naples’ natural beauty, take an Out and About Eco-Tour, sponsored by the Naples Preserve. The tours cover a variety of different interests and give you the chance to have a direct interaction with the ecological wonder of Southwest Florida. Tours depart from Fleischmann Park, and you should call them at 239-213-3020 to register.
