Third Street South Farmer’s Market: Named One of the Best in America

Tony Ridgway, owner of Tony’s Off Third, has always been a fan of farmers markets. He is also the man who began Naples’ famous Third Street South Farmers Market, and he’s proud to say that it’s now been recognized as one of the top 101 Farmers Markets in America for the year 2016. The Third Street South farmer’s market began with just a few local farmers and now has over 60 vendors each season.

Whats Different

There were a few factors when The Daily Meal considered the best markets in the United States. They primarily targeted markets that are centered in produce and they place emphasis on participation from local farms instead of artisan involvement. One of the other criteria was the atmosphere since local reviews had a lot of weight when it came to rank. Some other factors anti-hunger focus or children’s programs, educational seminars, overall quality and affordability and other things.

Winter is Peak Season

The Daily Meal had a lot to say about the market. During the winter, which is peak season, it’s vendors doubles so that the market moves from the spot it usually is found to a parking lot behind the famous store known as Tommy Bahama. This brings locals as well as more choices of ripe citrus and tropical fruit, seafood that’s been freshly caught and many different types of produce. Coffee, music, a paella-maker, and even some dog treats are among the items that you can find here. It’s got something for everyone.

Open Year Round

The market is open throughout the year from 7:30-11:30 AM on Saturdays. During the season, Third Street is shut down by the market. Vendors are made of locals selling cronuts, jams, relishes, vegetables, cheeses, fruits and seafood and meats that are sustainably raised. It’s also possible to buy pottery, flowers, hats and baskets made of palm fronds, herbs, and glycerin soaps.
For vendors, there is space provided by the market for selling their crafts and treats. This is a great way that people who are just starting to get their names and products out there without spending a lot of money.

Visiting Naples?

If you are in Naples, stop by the market and see what they have to offer. You’re going to find a lot of great produce and other items that will tempt you to buy. Bring the family and you’ll be able to find something for just about everyone, young and old. It’s a great way to spend a Saturday morning.
