Winter Things We Don't Experience in Naples Florida

Snow is best enjoyed on Instagram, we’ll thats what we say in Florida. Sure its beautiful when paired with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee. But then the inevitable happens and you have to leave your house. Either for work or to buy bananas. Then it starts to get annoying with all the layers, snow shovels, de-icing chemicals, black ice and frozen chunks of debris on the highway.
But theres hope!
For a very select few of us we don’t have to worry about winter. The good news is that you can take a break from shoveling and putting on 7 layers of sweaters just to take out the trash. Below are a few winter tings we never have to worry about in Naples Florida…ever!

1. The Snow

Let’s be real, the last time it snowed in South Florida was 1977, and were’re still talking about it. The snow fell as far south as Homestead, but quickly dissipated as the sun rose over the area. By 9:30 a.m., the South Florida winter wonderland was nothing but a memory.

2. The Cold

Generally speaking, Florida has much warmer weather than the rest of the US, and most colder locations in the world. Here in Southwest Florida, where Naples is located, our temperatures normally lie between 78 degrees Fahrenheit to as low as 50 degrees Fahrenheit in January.

3. The Darkness

In winter, the Northern Hemisphere points away from the sun, resulting in fewer hours of sunshine and shorter days. The temperature also gets lower in winter due to less solar radiation reaching the ground. Lucky for us we live at the bottom of the United States which means longer sunnier and warmer days…even in February.

4. Slipping on Ice

Each year many people end up breaking bones and bust open their heads as they lose their balance and hit the ice. Lucky for us, in Naples, we don’t have that problem.

5. Putting on Layers

With most of the Eastern seaboard suffering in a deep freeze, we thought it would be a good time to talk about winter layering. Mostly the fact that we don’t have to worry about it. The only layering we worry about is sun screen.

6. Scraping Snow off Your Car

One of the most irritating aspects of all is when you have to go shovel out your car. Especially if you don’t have a garage to keep your cars in during snow storms.

7. Wet Socks

There’s nothing worse than cold, wet socks inside a squishy shoe or boot. The only time our socks get wet, in Naples, is if we forget to bring our flip-flops to the beach.

8. Winter Never Ends

In Naples, we do bring sweaters with us. But its for when we get inside the building. While we do occasionally get a crisp morning or two, its what most people in the north east call summer! In Naples its quite the opposite, summer never ends!

Looking to escape winter?

Typically during the winter time, we get light wind, and a change in cooler temperatures in exchange for warmer ones. The sun is still shining every day; there’s no wind chill, no snow and no ice, except for the occasional frost, which won’t affect you, but does cause some trouble for the citrus industry.
